About New Buffalo
New Buffalo is the first city as soon as you cross into Michigan and is located right on Lake Michigan. New Buffalo has a beautiful beach, a vibrant foodie scene, cute shops and lots of natural beauty! New Buffalo is only 4 hours from Cincinnati and about 90 minutes from Chicago making it a perfect weekend escape.
When to Visit
Similar to Saugatuck, I would say the best time to visit is from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Our hotel offered fireplaces in every room which seemed perfect for a cozy weekend retreat, but overall I got the impression this is a summer town!
Getting Around
New Buffalo is very walkable, so I would suggest just parking once and walking to wherever you need to go. The Marina Grand Resort where we stayed has complimentary beach cruisers to use, but honestly everything is so close you can just walk!
Where to Stay
We loved our stay at the Marina Grand Resort… the rooms were spacious, beds were comfortable and every room has an oversized balcony which has views of the marina! Also they had Grown Alchemist amenities and a beautiful rooftop for guests only! We walked by some other cute spots to consider as well!
What to Do
There is a ton to do in New Buffalo from shopping to the beach your days will be full! On Friday we went wine tasting all afternoon and enjoyed the beautiful vineyards that were within a 10-15 minute drive of New Buffalo. Saturday, we went to the beach and explored downtown New Buffalo as well as Three Oaks which is nearby! To round out our weekend away, we took an early walk at the Galien River County Park which was beautiful and the perfect way to watch a sunrise… top that off with some cold brew coffee and a delish scone from The Whistle Stop for the ideal easy Sunday start.
