I know I didn’t post regularly last week…to say we had a lot going on would be an understatement. To be honest, I was just super stressed and pretty emotional since everything I had envisioned for our wedding day basically evaporated with one phone call on late Tuesday afternoon.
Andy and I have always wanted to host an intimate wedding with our closest friends + family and have the evening feel more like a fun night out instead of a traditional wedding. Especially with COVID, I felt like our plans were responsible and the event was going to be beautiful… but about a month ago our ceremony location let me know they no longer felt comfortable holding an event. With this, I was obviously very disappointed, but we found another venue that would work for a ceremony + cocktail hour and our reception venue re-confirmed they would be able to hold our wedding dinner. However, last week (a month before our wedding and after we had mailed our invitations) I found out our reception venue would not be able to host our party and that was a much bigger issue because they were supposed to basically do everything for the event… food, drinks, our wedding cake, linens, place settings, etc.
So here we are… 26 days out from our wedding day basically starting from scratch. Our parents quickly jumped in to take the lead on finding alternate venues and have been beyond supportive by offering help with whatever we need. We found a new venue, and while it’s different from what we were initially planning, we think will be beautiful and provide a fun experience for both us and our guests! I have actually not seen the venue in-person yet because I was out of town, so I had to FaceTime with Andy + my parents while they did the tour. We are on a definite time crunch so there was no time to wait for me to get back to Cincy. We ordered new invitations over the weekend and will be mailing those this week to let guests know we have changed locations but not the date!
Decor and food are the two biggest things I need to work on right now. Our original venue was beautiful on the inside and already had a ton of character so I was planning on just simple but elegant decor + florals… but our new venue is much more of an open space so we need to amp up the decor a bit to bring the room to life! I am working on pulling together some inspo photos for my florist this week! Also, we need to add lighting, candles, and a few extra little touches to make it seem special– those are all tbd right now so if you have any ideas let me know!
For food, I feel really good about caterer, but we were supposed to do our reception in a fancy restaurant and still want to keep that vibe. So I need to work with them to see what we can come up with! Also, calling around to see if someone can make you a wedding cake in a month is kind of crazy… we got super lucky that my favorite bakery (who had a cancellation) is available! We’re going to go do a cake tasting on Tuesday after work, so fingers crossed we find something we like!
I’ll be sharing some ideas I’m considering to my stories on instagram and keeping everyone updated on our progress here on my blog… let me know what you think, if you have any great ideas, things I’m missing, etc!
I do want to end this post with a little bit of my perspective…we are so excited to get married and want our wedding to be absolutely beautiful. However, our marriage is the most important part… I really want to focus on our vows and our commitments to each other and everything else will just fall into place! I am optimistic that everything will come together seamlessly but at the end of the day, we’re getting married on 10.17.2020 and it will be perfect to us!
